Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is the practice of optimizing your brand, content and third-party presence so that AI engines, ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, cite you and recommend you in their answers.

How GEO differs from SEO

Classic SEO fights for a ranked link on a results page. GEO fights for a place inside the answer itself. The AI composes a short recommendation from a handful of retrieved sources; if you are not in those sources, you don't exist for that buyer.

What actually moves GEO

  • Presence in the sources AI engines retrieve most: Reddit threads, listicles, review sites
  • Extraction-friendly content: answer-first pages, clear headings, concrete numbers
  • Consistent entity signals: same positioning everywhere the model looks

Why it matters now

AI assistants are becoming the first, and often only, step of buying research. Winning the shortlist inside the answer converts better than any blue link.
